Trust in Pop Culture Icons

Trust in Pop Culture Icons

Icons: Disney, Santa and Clowns

I chose these 3 icons because they all symbolize trust.  Trust is put in these 3 icons by parents.  Parents trust each with their children, even to the point of blind trust. Children grow up believing these icons can be trusted.  I grew up thinking these 3 are safe and trusted.  As a child, I would have been thrilled to have any Disney character as a friend. I would trust clowns to give me candy. I would run to Santa and sit on his lap at Christmas.  Disney was a safe place I dreamed of going to live.

Disney

Disney is a trusted brand.  Parents trust Disney to always have safe rides at their parks.  Their products are believed always safe for children (lead free). Parents don’t watch their children as closely at a Disney park because they believe their children are always safe there.  We even blindly trust Disney employees to be thinking of our best interest.

Santa

Parents are willing to put your child on any Santa’s lap.  This may be a mall Santa or ringing a bell on a street corner.  Children think they can trust Santa.  He brings them candy and presents.  Their parents hand them over and tells them to share their Christmas wishes with him

Clowns

Children trust clowns.  Clowns are funny and happy.  They give us candy, balloons, and make us laugh.  Whether the clown is at a children’s party or on a street corner, they are seen the same.  Harmless.

  1. I enjoyed reading about the icons you selected. I never thought of the icons the way you noted above, with those three being icons parents (and children) trust. It is true though. Many people trust clowns, Santa, and Disney (anything). I also think it's ironic that many trust them, oftentimes, many children fear them as well. I have seen my fair share of children running from a clown or crying when their parents try to make them take a picture with Santa. I've also seen little ones run away from the characters at Disney too. I mention this only to show it proves that although there are many icons in the world, there are also two sides to every thing and it could be different for each person. It truly is all about perspective. One's perspective is his or her reality.

Great post. Thank you for sharing.
